Pigmentation is the presence of too much melanin pigment in one area which makes a visible brown mark or patch. This is caused by over-activity within the melanin producing cells, called melanocytes. Pigmentation can be caused by many things such as hormonal disturbances, the contraceptive pill, pregnancy, some medications, sun damage, using products with too much fragrance or preservative, or certain illnesses, just to name a few.

A thread vein is a small, visible blood vessel near the surface of the skin that has lost its elasticity, resulting in it being permanently dilated. They are often quite unsightly and can have either a red or bluish colour. They can appear individually or in a cluster, which are sometimes referred to as spider veins. The most common places for them to appear is on and around the nose and cheek area. There are numerous causes for thread veins including age, smoking, hormones and extreme temperatures to name a few. They can also be hereditary.

Rosacea is a common skin disorder characterised by redness and swelling of the face. Symptoms can often vary from person to person, but not everyone will experience all the possible symptoms. Symptoms of rosacea can include flushing, persistent redness, visible blood vessels and papules and pustules.

You may experience some mild discomfort – patients often compare the sensation to the flicking of a rubber band against the skin – but treatment is not painful and is usually over fairly quickly. Our friendly team will always ensure that you remain comfortable throughout your treatment.

Results can be permanent, but it is important to bear in mind that over the years, the ageing process can see the emergence of new skin conditions unrelated to your treatment. It’s also important that you take care to protect your skin from further damage following treatment.

This will depend on two factors: how severe your condition is, and how long you have had it. We will work with you to formulate a treatment plan at your initial consultation.

There may be slight redness, swelling and a warm sensation to the area immediately after treatment, which normally settles within hours or the next day.  Pigmentation will look darker and can take up to 2 weeks to fade away. The treated area will then look clearer and brighter.

Your suitability for treatment will be assessed at your initial consultation and confirmation made following a patch test. Your skin must not be tanned prior to treatment to reduce risks. We may also advise against treatment for those with darker skin as the risk of complications is higher. This is something we will discuss in depth at your initial consultation.
