Botox® Therapy in Sussex

For frown lines & Crows Feet

What exactly is Botox®?

Botox® is a purified protein produced by the bacterium Clostridium Botulinum. Botox® was first used in the 1980’s to treat muscle disorders such as Migraines, rapid blinking, and excessive sweating. Soon after this, Botox® started to be used for Cosmetic purposes; for the treatment of the Frown, Forehead and Crows Feet/Laughter Lines.

How does it work?

Botox® reduces muscle activity therefore allowing the overlying skin to relax and smooth out without affecting the rest of the face so the normal facial expressions are maintained.

What does the treatment involve?

During your consultation with a medical practitioner you will be assessed to establish your suitability for this treatment and the procedure will be discussed in full. You will also be asked to sign a consent form. Botox® is administered directly into muscles by very fine needles. An anaesthetic cream is applied to the skin to minimise any discomfort. The treatment usually takes about 10-15 minutes, and no recovery time is needed so you can drive afterwards.

When will I see results and how long will it last?

The Botox will start to take effect after a few days and the full effect will be seen up to 2 weeks following treatment. The initial results last an average of 3-4 months. The muscles then gradually regain their strength. After several treatments the effects may begin to last longer and fewer treatments per year are needed.

Who is not suitable for treatment?

Generally Botox® is not given to those who are pregnant, breast-feeding or trying for a family or anyone suffering from severe neuromuscular disease.

What are the side effects?

Side effects are rare and temporary and mostly related to injection sites e.g. slight redness and tenderness which usually resolves within a few hours, occasional bruising which can be concealed with makeup. Other side effects are temporary eyelid droop and cold and flu-like symptoms.

Follow Up

It is recommended to assess the result 2 weeks after treatment. A top up may be given at that time if necessary.
